Editorial (sometimes called day-rate) is the amount a photographer charges for a magazine or journalism assignment. The photographer charges for his time and expenses while on the shoot (anywhere from $1,500 to $3,000 per full day). The client is allowed to use the images in their publication, usually only one time. Illustration price is usually based on the size of the image and the print run of the publication.
Advertising Rates (Usage Based pricing) is a system of charging the client per image, based on factors like size and placement, print run, duration, etc. Essentially, the more prominent the advertising (or media buy) is, the more expensive the photograph will be. For example, a photograph for a small-run brochure will cost much less money than a photo taken for a billboard or the inside cover of a magazine.
